[caption id="attachment_5712" align="aligncenter" width="310"] Dr. Paul Lowe – Admissions Guru[/caption] I often hear from parents, students, high school guidance counselors and even fellow educational consultants that it doesn’t matter where you attend college, as long as where you attend is a “good fit”. Actually studies show it does matter where you attend college! My recommendation to my U.S. as well as international clients is that one should attend the “best” school possible where you will happy...

Most parents are aware of the importance of building confidence and self-esteem in their children. How to do it effectively? One way is to listen when they talk and then respond, to let them know you take their ideas seriously. Ask their opinions at times. Spend uninterrupted time with them to show you enjoy their company. Building self-esteem often involves a lot of “Good jobs.” We praise children for just about anything they do, from drawing...

[caption id="attachment_5713" align="aligncenter" width="310"] Dr. Paul Lowe – Admissions Guru[/caption] It's early decision time and anxiety is beginning to fill the air. For some, within the next two months or so it will be a time to celebrate – accepted! And for others, it will be discouraging and disappointing - deferred or worse, a rejection letter. This is expected to be another highly competitive year. The number of applicants is increasing, while the admissions rates to the...

Last Spring, parents and children at Putnam Indian Field School (PIFS) planted nine organic gardens on the school grounds to encourage and celebrate healthy eating.  The gardens were part of the school’s move to organic, non-GMO, more fruit and vegetable filled lunches. In between the many vegetables, the children planted marigolds (to discourage bunnies), herbs and nasturtiums.  [caption id="attachment_5146" align="aligncenter" width="608"] Marcella Kapsaroff, PIFS mom and Garden Committee Chair shows children the fruits of their gardens.[/caption] Tomatoes of all...

Why Steve Jobs Didn’t Let His Kids Use iPads (And Why You Shouldn’t Either) via nextshark.com If you fall within the Gen-Y era like us, chances are you’ve given a bunch of thought as to how you would raise your own children in this day and age (assuming you don’t have children already). It’s that simple! First let’s discuss the ways in which expert admissions advisors can help you. We bring:  Experience, knowledge and insight...

[caption id="attachment_5715" align="aligncenter" width="310"] by Dr. Paul Lowe – Admissions Guru[/caption] Over the last 17 years as a college admissions advisor, I have observed that many well-intentioned parents don’t have the time, knowledge and emotional tolerance to “play” college admissions advisor, even after they create spreadsheets, read books, take copious notes during college tours, talk with friends, and try to gather information from my workshops. U.S. parents are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of having a...
