Lunch at Boxcar Cantina is always fun and delicious. Party with Moms loves it there, and the experience never gets old. We walk in to warm greetings from James, Jeff, Romana and Carlos. Our favorite starter? The Teepee Nachos, of course. Served for either 2 or 4 people, it is the greatest dish to share. The handmade chips are warm and crispy, the melted Jack Cheddar cheese is everywhere, the scattered kalamata olives, black beans, scallions and sour cream topping add to the mouth-watering taste. You might want a side of their terrific salsa for dipping.
A Boxcar salad is always a great lunch item. They are all delicious, but our favorite is the Mexican salad, featuring romaine, roasted corn, avocado, cukes, and grilled chicken with crispy tortilla croutons, topped with cilantro lime dressing. Boxcar also offers Caesar, Kale or Southwest salads. You can’t go wrong here.
For hungrier types, there is an endless variety of soft or crispy tacos, burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas. They can be filled with chicken, beef, pork, shrimp, roasted veggies, fish, or pork bellies, all served with Spanish brown rice and pinto beans. Guacamole and salsa are readily available to accompany all these dishes.
We didn’t order it the other day, but the Boxcar Burger, topped with Jack Cheddar served on a tortilla is also really good. Warning: you might want the green chiles on the side, so you can add as you wish.
And Boxcar always offers sangria, a wide selection of beers (we like Negro Modelo and Pacifico) and wonderful margaritas. You can’t beat the lunch experience at Boxcar Cantina.
