Mom of the Week- Lindley Pless, Founder of The Sentimentalist!

What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?

When we are feeling mellow I love reading with my girls and snuggling with them. We are a pretty touchy-feely bunch!  I also adore skiing with them and playing golf with them.  We are an active family so some of our favorite moments together are a simple hike near our home in VT, a dip in a swimming hole, and a picnic along the way.

I have two daughters, ages 4 and 6.  Our third is due in November.  We don’t know if it’s a boy or girl so that will be an amazing surprise.  My greatest wish for my children is that they always feel safe and loved.  I want them to feel confident expressing themselves and asking for what they want from the world around them.

When and where are you the happiest?

I am happiest when it is just the four of us.  I adore uninterrupted time when the four of us can talk, eat and hang out with no tech interruptions.  My youngest is a little shy so she really saves her silliness for her sister and parents.  The best way to truly get to know your children is by carving out quality family time.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have always wanted to go on an African Safari.  A safari capped off with some relaxing beach time in the Seychelles would be HEAVEN!

Who has had the biggest influence upon you? And what quality do you most admire in a mother?

It feels cheesy to admit but my husband has influenced me in ways I can barely explain.  He has the purest heart of anyone I know.  He truly wants only the best for those around him and I envy his generosity.  He is honest to a fault and very laid back about life.  He’s happy when those around him are happy.  It’s as simple as that for him.

I am also inspired by so many other people I see around me every day.  I learn the most from people who are working and living their dreams – whether that be stay-at-home parenting, freelance writing, or those who are in an office from 9-5.  Happy people who are fulfilled in their day-to-day make the biggest impact on me and inspire me to be that way and follow my dreams too.

In a mother I most admire contentedness.  If you are a mom full time embrace it and love it!  If you work and see your kids more after hours and on weekends, then make your peace with that and feel confident.  Just be happy in what you are doing.  Kids can really feel it.

What do you like to do for fun?

I’m a geek.  I love reading and playing scrabble.  I started a blog two years ago (www.lindleypless.com) and I really love writing and sharing with my readers.

I’ve also become addicted to golf and play any chance I get.  Hiking, biking, long walks to the coffee shop in Old Greenwich, all are my ideas of fun!  I also love having backyard BBQs with friends.  Good conversations, good food, and good drinks make an ideal Saturday night.

What is one of your favorite books? Movies?

The book Me Before You by Jojo Moyes has haunted me for the last year.  I just can’t get the characters out of my head… And as far as movies go I’ve always been partial to Braveheart and Pretty Woman.  Oldies but goodies.

What do you feel is one of your strongest qualities?

I am a very loyal person.  I would do almost anything for my family and close friends.

What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?

I adore anything French, from crepes to chicken Paillard, I could eat French food from breakfast through dinner.  I cook a lot but keep it very simple and clean.  We use our grill all four seasons.  I feel most confident when baking.  I make a mean 4-chip cookie.  It’s requested often!

What is your favorite time of the day and why?

I love the end of the day.  When the sun is setting and we are having a glass of wine and catching up.  It’s that peaceful moment when you exhale from the busyness of the day.

Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your favorite drink?

I am obsessed with Le Penguin right now.  Such a fun ambience and always a great meal.  No coincidence it’s French food. 🙂  My girlfriends and I go often.

Our household drink is called a “Cascade Lemonade.”  It’s Tito’s vodka, seltzer and fresh lemonade. Perfection in a glass!
