October 19, 2015 9:29 am Mom of the Week – Kimberly De Gennaro!
What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?
The conversations I have with my 6 year old twin girls, Finley & Anabelle, are hysterical. I love listening to their stories and seeing the world through their eyes. We love to travel or go out and do all of the fun seasonal events in the area – apple picking, lobster festivals, or family fun runs. At home, we spend time with our 2 pugs, jumping on the trampoline or making crafts.
My greatest wish is for them to follow their dreams and have as happy and carefree a childhood as I was fortunate enough to have.
When and where are you the happiest?
I grew up in Florida, so sunshine makes me very happy! Being on a boat doesn’t hurt either.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot in my life and have lived in Madrid and London. My favorite places to visit are countries where I get to speak Spanish. I think learning different languages are so important and anywhere I can practice that language while traveling is really fun and challenging for me!
Who has had the biggest influence upon you? And what quality do you most admire in a mother?
My parents have had the most influence on me and have shown me what it means to be selfless and do whatever it takes for their family. I strongly believe that God only gives you as much as you can handle, but having a strong support system can get you through anything. I think the most important quality in a mom is to be patient and loving to their children. They are my world and I want them to feel that they are constantly and unconditionally loved.
What do you like to do for fun?
Travel, cook, boat, play tennis or golf, try new restaurants and go to fun events with my children and friends.
What is one of your favorite books? Movies?
These days, I tend to only read children’s books with my kids. As far as favorite movies, I love romantic comedies. The most recent movie I saw was Interstellar and it was fantastic!
Besides motherhood, what other careers/opportunities have you enjoyed?
I moved to NYC after college to work on Wall Street. It was a really fun time starting out my career in a big firm with a training program where I was surrounded by other kids right out of school. Although now I couldn’t code anything to save my life, my career started out as a Java Developer and moved into Business Analysis, IT Project Management, PMO and Operations types of work.
What are your strongest qualities?
Hmmm, I would have to say my best qualities are my strength and honesty… although my honesty can get me into trouble once in a while! Raising twin girls from birth as a divorced single mom is definitely something I am proud of. I am also a huge planner. I love planning events and activities for my kids and my friends. I love to go out and enjoy life to the fullest.
What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?
Mexican food! Fish tacos are one of my go-to meals and I am always on the hunt for a Mexican inspired breakfast item at brunch. I love making meals for my friends and family and hosting dinner parties, featuring anything from healthy fish dishes to old school Southern dishes that I grew up on. Ever heard of Porcupine meatballs? I’ve been told I make a great vodka sauce too!
What is your favorite time of the day and why?
Anytime I get to be with my kids is my favorite time… bedtime can be challenging, but weekends with them are always the best days!
Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your favorite drink?
I typically drink Sauvignon Blanc or Prosecco. There are too many wonderful places in this area to pick just one, but sitting somewhere outside and staring at the water is my ideal location. We are all so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area of the country.
