Meet Amy van Arsdale, Owner of Simply Organize It!

What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?

I love to play Scrabble with my kids. I have 4 children 17, 15, 13 and 11. My greatest wish for them is to be kind, helpful to others and well educated.

When and where are you the happiest?

I teach yoga and am the happiest after one of my yoga classes. It totally relaxes me and reminds me of how grateful I am for my life and family.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would take the kids to the banks of the Italian/French Mediterranean. Between the beauty and the culture, they would learn a great deal about how other people live.

Who has had the biggest influence upon you? And what quality do you most admire in a mother?

My mother – I was one of five children. We had St. Bernard’s in a modest home. It was always filled with a lot of activity and chaos-but we had fun. My mother made lavish dinners each night and took wonderful care of our home and us. She also worked as a realtor on weekends! I am in awe with her ability to have been able to manage it all with a smile and no outside help.

What do you like to do for fun?

I love to garden and ride my bike around Compo Beach. I enjoy sitting outside on my patio with friends having cocktails on a warm summer night.  I love to entertain.

What is one of your favorite books? Movies?

I am a sap for romantic books and movies.

What do you feel is one of your strongest qualities?

My ability to network.

What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?

I do not love to cook-period. I love Italian foods.

What is your favorite time of the day and why?

I am a morning person. I love awakening early and sipping coffee and snuggling with my labs while all others are asleep.

Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your favorite drink?

My favorite drink is either an extra dry dirty martini or spicy Bloody Mary. Sitting outside at The Delamar Hotel is probably my favorite local spot to mingle.

If you have a cluttered, poorly decorated or somewhat disorganized living space, home relaxation can be virtually impossible! For some, the most challenging tasks we face in our circle of home chaos can be parting with objects and clothes we love that are no longer serving us. Why is this? What is it about clothes, and other possessions, that brings up a palpable sense of loss when we think of separating from them? They are not living. They do not love us back. So what causes this and how can we work through it so that we can reach the peace of a pared down life?

That is why I started my business in 2008. I help people clear their clutter, so they can clear their minds-it works, I promise.
