May 15, 2017 11:14 am Mother’s Day Mom of the Week – Abby Smith!
What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?
My daughter Claire is 5 and she’s a big homebody. She loves to do anything and everything to help out around the house – gardening, decorating, taking things out of the attic, which she calls the lost and found! My greatest wish for her is to find enduring health, love, and happiness!
Who has had the biggest influence upon you?
My Mother died when I was young and I was blessed to find and adopt as my own another Mother, coincidentally named Faith. She means the world to me and has taught me so many life lessons of how to be a good mother, good wife, and good to myself!
What quality do you most admire in a mother?
Patience. I never realized how much energy it takes to be patient!
Besides motherhood, what other careers/opportunities have you enjoyed? And what are your strongest qualities?
I’ve worked since I was 16 and mostly enjoyed it. I always say people are exhausting but then I go right back into roles involving lots of people like project management. I’m told, I’m good at resolving issues at work but it doesn’t always seem that way at home!
Were you happiest in elementary, middle high school or college? Please explain why.
Definitely not middle school. I guess I would have to say elementary school when I saw the world as my daughter sees it now – creative, magical, and fun – when my favorite character at the carnival was the pocket lady!
What do you like to do for fun and what is your idea of a perfect day?
My idea of a perfect day is to sit around in PJs with my daughter until one of us says we absolutely have to get dressed and go do something!
What is one of your favorite books? Movies?
One of my favorite books is A Winter’s Tale by Mark Helprin. It’s called a modern fantasy book and includes a lot of interesting historical and geographical descriptions of, around, and below NYC. I guess by movies you’re asking if I’ve seen an adult movie in a while? I did like the movie Sing.
What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?
I like to eat and try new foods. However, I’ve never been that interested in cooking. So my favorite things to cook are usually nut butter with apple.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I do like Paris and I’ve always wanted to see St. Petersburg.
Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your drink of choice?
A good Party with Moms place seems to be Le Pain Quotidien. Although it doesn’t have wine it’s always easy to dash into one for a quick catch up; it has healthy, good food, and doesn’t require a reservation. My good friend always says a whole milk latte will cure anything – maybe even a little sugar!
