What was originally predicted to be a wet Saturday turned warm and sunny just in time for the Putnam Indian Field School’s 40th Anniversary celebration. Head of School, Susan Donaghy and Former Head Marianne Riess welcomed the over 300 people who showed up to connect with old friends and share memories. Parents and former children (now adults) were there from the first classes in 1978 and on. Past and present teachers were happy to reminisce about earlier times with special stories about their former students.
Throughout the party, parents could be heard saying that their best friends today are still the people they met when their children were little at PIFS. They still see each other and do things together and their children are still friends too.
The Boxcar Cantina truck and a staff from Aux Delices provided delicious tacos, quesadillas, sliders and pigs in a blanket while Carlos from Boxcar mixed his signature margaritas. Bob Capazzo and a group from the Merlin Band provided music and entertainment.
It was a wonderful time for all, as everyone came together to toast the late founder and first Headmaster, Fred Wierdsma, who created the school and so many fond memories for his little charges. For those who hadn’t visited in a while, Board members provided tours of the new rooms and commentary on the current children’s work which was displayed throughout the school.
As the evening drew to a close, the words on everyone’s lips were, “You should do this again!” It was such a nice time that we hope that will happen.
