What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?
I have 3 children, two girls and one boy. Kiara is turning 7 in a few days, Alexa is 4 and Samuel is 4 months old. My favorite thing to do with them is go out to eat as a family. We spend good, quality time together, we talk about everything, laugh and enjoy each other’s company.

My greatest wish for my children is for them to be grounded. I think sometimes we all get caught up with life and give much importance to things that in reality don’t require too much of our attention or time. I always tell my kids how blessed we are to be living in a country with so many opportunities and freedoms for all. In my country, many of the things we take for granted here are nonexistent. Whenever we visit Nicaragua with them, it’s important to me that they see the reality of the country: extreme poverty such as young children begging on the streets for food. Its not easy to see that, but it helps them grow up, mature, count their blessings, have sympathy for others, help those in need and stay very grounded without any sense of entitlement. If I’m able to achieve that with my children, I will feel fulfilled as a mother.
Who has had the biggest influence upon you?
My husband Paul. He is the love of my life, my best friend and my soulmate. I first met him when I was 16 years old and I knew right then he was the one. We lost touch for 5 years but when we reconnected, it felt like no time had passed. He has influenced me to be more optimistic, look at the bright side of things, have hope and enjoy the little things of life that make it so special.
What quality do you most admire in a mother?
Patience and appreciation for her kids.

Besides motherhood, what other careers/opportunities have you enjoyed? And what are your strongest qualities?
I am a lawyer and I worked at the Nicaraguan Embassy in New York as an immigration attorney. My strongest quality is persistence. I work very hard and never give up on all that I put my mind to.
Were you happiest in elementary, middle high school or college? Please explain why.
I was the happiest in middle school. I was born in the middle of a civil war and a communist regime. My childhood was very difficult surrounded by so much pain, loss and death as a result of the war. In 1990, we finally had democratic elections and the communist government was overthrown. The 90s were a time of good changes, transitions to better things and we all finally had the liberties we had been deprived of before. It was incredible to be able to do normal things any kid does like playing outside, having sleepovers, sports, etc.
What do you like to do for fun and what is your idea of a perfect day?
I love the beach and the sun. I thrive in warm weather. My perfect day is at a beautiful beach, getting some sun, going swimming and relaxing.
What is one of your favorite books? Movies?
My favorite book is Cien Anos de Soledad (One Hundred years of Solitude) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. My favorite movie is Life is Beautiful.
What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?
I love Spanish/Latin food. My absolute favorite is called Tostones (fried green plantains). In complete honesty, I’m not much of a cook but when I do, I definitely cook food from my country.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
St Barths, a French island in the Caribbean. Paul and I love going there. We went there for our honeymoon and have been going ever since. We love the island, it’s one of our favorite places to go to.
Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your drink of choice?
I enjoy getting together at friend’s houses. Everyone is more relaxed and spontaneous in the privacy of their home. I am not much of a drinker but when I do drink, I enjoy a glass of rose. I used to be a tequila drinker, but that was back in my early 20s. Times have changed.
