January 13, 2016 1:56 pm Marianne’s Dinner at Firenze Ristorante on a Chilly Night
It was nice to see a good crowd on a Wednesday night at Firenze. And although almost all the tables were taken, it was still possible to converse, thanks to the new acoustical tiles they have installed.
The men started off with the Tagliere to share: an abundant board of Italian hams, salamis, delicious cheeses, olives, grapes, walnuts and honey. This is a wonderful taste experience, but it does leave you pretty full. Determined to have a main course, I started with the burrata: creamy mozzarella over a bed of arugula and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. My friend loved the Carpaccio of cured dried beef with shaved Parmigiano cheese over arugula.
I finally got to try a main course I have been eyeing for weeks, the Pollo e Salsiccia. It was melt-in-the-mouth good, – baked de-boned chicken thighs and sausage in a white wine sauce with crushed crouton red peppers, artichokes and braised onions.
My companions all opted for the special pasta dish, Boscaiola, which means “in the style of the woodsman.” At Firenze, it was homemade pasta served in a creamy sauce with lots of mushrooms and sausage and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. I had had it before so could testify to the exquisite nature of the dish.
We all loved our dinners and the excellent red wine that accompanied it, which made us forget about the wintry weather that had set in. Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, but the cappuccino was described as “the best ever had.” Firenze is really a gem of Italian cuisine at its best, casual but elegant décor and friendly bend-over-backwards service.
