October 28, 2013 3:40 pm Meet Kati Robins from Richmond VA! This Week’s Mom of the Week!
What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?
My son and I love to go to nearby Meadow Farm and visit the animals. He is three years old and loves to go “check on our friends”, as we say. We will go over and see the sheep, chickens, cows, and pigs when the weather is not so great, to “make sure that they’re okay.” It’s extra fun in the spring, when all the lambs are being born.
My greatest wish for him, and our baby on the way, is that they will navigate their lives filled with joy and wonderment, love each other and treasure their family, be true to themselves, always have empathy for others and a strong sense of responsibility to their communities.
When and where are you the happiest?
I am happiest first thing in the morning, in bed, with my two boys (husband and son), doing “family cuddles!”
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would go back to Italy, but this time I would have my husband with me.
What quality do you most admire in a mother? And what woman has had the biggest impression on you?
The quality I admire most in a mother is the willingness to do the difficult thing because she knows it’s the right thing. So often it is much easier to not fight the battle, choose the easier battle, or to pick the easiest way out of a situation with a child. But, a mother who will “stick to her guns” and make the difficult choice because she knows that it will pay off in the long run, is a mother I admire! That’s how my mother was, and is, and she has definitely had the biggest impression on me!
What is your favorite book? Movie?
My favorite book is Shadow of the Wind, by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is unlike anything I have ever read before, and I loved every second of reading it. I love watching movies, and so, just about every year I have a new favorite :).
What personal achievement are you most proud of?
I am most proud of staying true to myself so that I can live the life that I want to live, while leaving myself open to accept new challenges, endeavors, and adventures along the way.
What do you feel is your strongest talent?
Teaching. I have a natural ability to connect with students and easily find a way to make subject matter relatable to them. I grew up working at my parents’ preschool, so I thank them for this!
What do you like to do for fun?
Movies! Whether curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn, or at a theater… I love watching movies!
What is your favorite time of the day and why?
My favorite time is first thing in the morning… family cuddles, coffee on the front porch, current events – the calm before the storm!
Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what do you like to drink?
I love getting together with a group of moms at my house, or someone else’s, where we can laugh as loud as we want, talk about anything we want, stay as long as we want, and drink as much red wine as we want!
