04 Apr Meet Shawna Hamilton Doster, Mom of Two, Attorney & CEO of GLOsquad!
What do you love to do with your children? How old are they? And what is your greatest wish for them?
My son, Thomas, is almost 15 and my daughter, Hamilton, is 12. I love to travel with them and take them to learn new things… going to museums and exhibits, historic sites and ruins, etc. Granted, they definitely aren’t quite as excited as I am when we do those things, but I think they are ultimately appreciative when they can draw on the things they learned and those experiences later (and make fun of me for making them do it!). We ALL love to go to Mets games together and even have a family tradition of going to a game for Mother’s Day!
My greatest wish for them is that they find balance and happiness in life and can keep in perspective all the challenges that life throws their way.
When and where are you the happiest?
I am happiest when I have quality family time with my children and everyone is getting along!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
My favorite “go to” is the South of France! We have been lucky enough to travel a lot, but I think if we could pick our next trip anywhere in the world, we would go to the Galapagos Islands. My daughter has been dying to go there and I would love for us all to experience it together.
Who has had the biggest influence upon you? And what quality do you most admire in a mother?
My grandmother and grandfather had a tremendous impact on my life. They were both incredibly hard working, wise, honest and resourceful. They both passed away last year so it has been hard to not have them to look to for guidance and advice.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to read, exercise, travel, play tennis and golf.
What is one of your favorite books? Movies?
I love Gone with the Wind, both the book and the movie. I am also a huge fan of Hemingway, Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir. Not much time to read these days though!
Besides motherhood, what other careers/opportunities have you enjoyed? What are your strongest qualities?
I am currently CEO of a new company, GLOsquad, here in Greenwich. We are a skin lounge that believes that skin maintenance is a necessity, not a luxury so all of our treatments are positioned to be accessible both in terms of time (30 minutes or less) and pricing ($50-$125) so that everyone can make them a regular part of their health and beauty routine.
I practiced law for many years as a litigator and also ran Books for Kids, a national non-profit based in New York City, focused on early childhood literacy.
I think my strengths are being willing to work hard at everything, not believing that any task is beneath me and caring and being dedicated to every aspect of my clients’ experience whether a client is coming for skin treatment, legal advice or to donate to charity.
What is your favorite type of food and what do you love to cook?
I LOVE bread and pizza, but don’t cook either of those. I love to cook pasta and bake chocolate chip banana bread, which is a favorite and a crowd pleaser!
What is your favorite time of the day and why?
9:45 pm. At that point, I am usually done for the day with working, driving and cooking and know that I can finally relax for a few minutes before I collapse exhausted!
Where is your favorite place to Party with Moms and what’s your favorite drink?
I am happy always happiest with friends in front of a fire with a glass of red wine.
